Sean
Carberry is currently Senior Producer and Field Producer of America
Abroad Media in Washington DC. From September 2006-June 2007,
Mr. Carberry served as political producer and field producer for
WBUR FM in Boston.
He produced coverage of the 2006 Massachusetts governor's race,
produced and wrote a documentary on Governor Deval Patrick, produced
a special
series on public higher education in Massachusetts and also
worked on pilot eposides of "Radio Boston" the new local
prograam WBUR is launching this fall. He also reported for WBUR's
local news department, Here & Now, and All Things
Considered.
Mr.
Carberry graduated from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government in
June of 2006 with a Master in Public Administration. The morning
after graduation he flew to Dubai where he spent the summer as a
research associate at the Dubai
School of Government. There he researched and wrote on political
governance and reform in the Middle East, as well as leadership
development in the region.
Prior
to attending the Kennedy School, Mr. Carberry served as a political
consultant. He managed State Senator Pat Jehlen's successful 2005
special election campaign in Massachusetts. In 2004 he managed Congressman
Paul Hodes' campaign in New Hampshire's Second District.
Prior
to joining the Hodes campaign, Mr. Carberry spent three and a half
years at WBUR FM, Boston's NPR news station. He started as a production
engineer in October, 2000, and quickly jumped up to Technical Director/Associate
Producer of The Connection, the award-winning daily talk
show. While on the program he did everything but host the show--he
produced, directed, engineered live broadcasts, produced and mixed
audio elements for the program and even screened calls--sometimes
performing several of these tasks in a single broadcast. (Click
here for a rundown of programs produced by Mr. Carberry)
In
September 2003, Mr. Carberry took on a new assignment at WBUR: Political
Field Producer for Morning Edition, and Election Coverage
Coordinator for the station. In that capacity, he regularly traveled
to New Hampshire (and even snuck out to Iowa), often with Morning
Edition host Bob Oakes, to cover the Democratic Presidential
Primary Campaign. He attended countless events, rallies, house parties,
forums, and all other manner of campaign activities. Over the course
of the campaign, WBUR's coverage focused on local Senator John Kerry,
and Mr. Carberry and Bob Oakes covered Senator Kerry's victory party
after the New Hampshire Primary for the program On Point.
Mr.
Carberry produced political coverage for The Connection, On
Point, and Here and Now--in fact he also did some
reporting for Here and Now as well as the WBUR Web site.
In
his past life in the music industry, Mr. Carberry accumulated dozens
of album credits (and a Gold Record) as an engineer, producer, and
musician. Many of his projects received great critical acclaim,
some have garnered local, national, and international awards and
nominations.
Past
engineering projects include music for the HBO series "Sex and the
City" and several independent films. In addition, his work
has been heard on network shows such as "Dawson's Creek" and
"Party of Five." Susan Tedeschi, on the strength of the recently
Gold Certified Just Won't Burn engineered by Mr. Carberry,
attended the 2000 Grammy Awards as Best New Artist nominee.
In
1994 (after leaving his position of Assistant Vice President of
Charles River Mortgage Company in Boston) he began his formal apprenticeship
with the renowned producer/engineer Ducky Carlisle. Quickly demonstrating
a profound aptitude for engineering, Mr. Carberry vaulted into the
big chair for numerous projects at Carlisle's Room 9 from Outer
Space Recording Studio. Shortly thereafter, he took over as
Chief Engineer at Rear Window in Brookline, owned by Boston
guitar legend Milt Reder.
From
January, 2000 to May, 2001, Mr. Carberry served on the faculty of
Berklee College of Music as an Assistant Professor of Music Production
and Engineering. He taught courses in audio technology and recording.
Mr.
Carberry has written for a variety of publications and has an interest
in fields ranging from the environment to political philosophy to
all things outdoors (Mr. Carberry is a certified SCUBA diver, graduate
of the Skip Barber School of Auto Racing and dabbles in everything
from kayaking to mountain biking to rock climbing).
